I think XCOM 3 should be about earth taking the war to the Ethereals and going out to liberate worlds the Ethereals conquered. And with each world you liberate, you get to recruit a new alien race to your squad.

The question is not if there will be an xcom 3 or not. The question is whether it will be good or not. With Jake no longer at Firaxis, I'm not certain if the quality will be the same as it is. There's also the possibility they may go in the direction of Chimera Squad and Legends and having "defined" characters, as opposed to recruitable supporters. But I agree with RedTieGuy - it would be silly if Xcom 3 had no mod support. Mod support was what made Xcom 2, an already great game, into a STELLAR game. That said, I hope that Jake's time at Firaxis can inspire his successors to make a game worthy of his time on the series. And no matter what, I will always play and love XCOM 1 and 2.
